GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) –The City of Goose Creek is looking to attract restaurants, retail and other service-oriented businesses to the area.

That’s why the city is providing what it’s calling economic development incentives to future developers to help offset some of the costs. President of Coldwell Banker Commerci

al Brent Case is developing a site on Plantation North Boulevard near Saint James Avenue.

“We are developing a site that was a  former organic landfill,” Case said. “This is a big benefit to us to be able to make this development happen without it we probably would not be able to do the deal.”

The costs of preparing the land to be ready for development is a large cost.

About six new restaurants and other service-oriented retail spaces will also fill the space.

La Hacienda, a sports bar and a breakfast and pizza restaurant are already confirmed for the area.

Case says they are searching for more tenants.

The City of Goose Creek’s economic development incentives include reimbursing developers with 50 percent of costs for impact fees and 50 percent of costs for all building permits.

It also includes reimbursing 50 percent of costs for license fees for up to five years.

The Economic Director for the City of Goose Creek Matt Brady says the incentives are designed to spur private investment in the city.

“People are leaving Goose Creek to go dine and shop and we feel like we can recapture some of that,” Brady said.

The Goose Creek Village Project will be the first development considered for the incentives.

It’s expected to create about 300 jobs.

“We keep those dollars here. They’re able to shop locally,” Brady said. “We think it’s a win win for the city, for the developers and for the people who live here.”

The Goose Creek Village is expected to be completed by May of next year.

“We’re looking to create a gathering place in the city of Goose Creek,” Case said. “That was part of what was sold to the city was that it needed a place  for the community to go, where high school kids can go. There’s walk-ability with the shops. That was an important feature with this particular development.”

Developers will have to seek approval from the Goose Creek City Council for the incentives.

There will be a public hearing on Tuesday at the City Council meeting regarding this new development.

“What we’re trying to do is to show we’re open for business, to show that we are wanting to attract these types of businesses to town, and we want to be an efficient and good government to work with,” Brady said.
